NOMINATED FOR BEST EDITING IN FINNISH FILM AWARDS (JUSSI PALKINNOT) 2017
War and The Peace of Mind explores the impact of Finland’s wars on the mentality of an entire nation. Fears and traumas were not something one was meant to speak about in the immediate aftermath of the wars—nor, really, later on either. How many generations does it take to heal the wounds of the mind? The film is built from letters sent between the front and home, as well as diary entries. Private experiences are skillfully woven into the history of the nation as a whole, as experts interviewed for the documentary shed light on both war and the workings of the human mind. War and The Peace of Mind re-examines history and corrects a distorted national memory. It gives a voice to those who were forced into silence.
